Is your roof ready for the severe weather and extreme heat summer brings?

It will be once you go through our summer checklist. Below we have made a list of all the things you need to do to ensure your roof is ready for another unpredictable Nebraska summer.

1.Perform a Roof Inspection from the Inside

Start by performing an inspection of your roof from the inside. Check for any water stains on the walls or ceilings, this is a good indicator that you already have a leak. Another sign of an existing leak is musty odors, mold or mildew, and peeling paint. Once you find a leak, call a professional right away to have it repaired so it does not cause more damage to your roof or building.

2. Perform an Inspection on the Roof

Once you have inspected the inside of your building, it’s time to move onto the roof. Look for any existing holes and damaged areas, these should be addressed immediately. You should also check the flashings on the roof as well as any roof penetrations. It is also a good idea to examine any previous repairs to make sure they are holding up.

3. Clean the Roof

Once you have completed your inspections it’s time to clean the roof. Remove any debris on the roof like branches or trash, debris can cause punctures easily, so it is important to remove it right away. You should also trim any trees near the roof to minimize the number of branches falling onto the roof, especially during a thunderstorm.

4. Work With a Professional

Lastly, it’s important that you work with a reputable roofing contractor. A professional can perform these inspections for you and may spot things you would miss. They will also repair any leaks or damages and advise you on what to look out for after the next thunderstorm.

We recommend going through this checklist after every major storm. This way you will be able to spot any new issues and have them fixed right away to minimize the damages and increase the lifespan of your roof.
